Work Standards To Standardized Work, And What's In Between.

How is your organization progressing with 'standardization'? To what extent is the term actually commonly understood? Does it sometimes feel like you take two steps forward, then two back? Maybe you are trying to improve on shifting sands. Added to this may be ambiguity created by the myriad of way the following three terms are used (and misused) ...

  • Work Standard
  • Standard Work
  • Standardized Work

Mr Isao Kato (Ohno's HR Advisor) states that 'standardized work' is an end point. That being said, what's necessary to enable achieving this end point?

Work Standards are the foundation. Kato has made two very telling comments with respect to 'work standards'.

  1. "Without work standards, there will be no standardized work." and
  2. "The purpose of Work Standards is to create a basis of efficient production that delivers the quality our customers require.”

What's behind the caution (1.) and what's meant by a 'basis of efficient production'? How robust is your organizations foundation of work standards now?

Attend this presentation in order to learn:

  • The three definitions for the key terms stated above
  • The logical progression of the three terms and how one builds on the next
  • Examples illustrating the above progression
  • What's necessary to then bring 'work standards' and 'standard work' to life
  • In particular, what skills leaders will need to bring 'work standards' and 'standard work' to life
  • Of a model that brings all the above together in a single illustration
