Develop your members to develop your organisation

At Toyota, it´s all about our people. Most of you will be aware of “The Toyota Production System". In short, these are a set of manufacturing tools which are at the core of our success. However, without the correct culture, the tools will not be fully utilised or sustained. In 2001 we introduced “The Toyota Way". This  13-page document sets the path of our people through 5 very distinct, interlinked areas.

  • Challenge
  • Kaizen
  • Genchi Genbutsu
  • Respect
  • Teamwork

These five areas are all vital “Behaviours” that we use to develop our people

Challenge

“We form a long-term vision, meeting challenges with courage and creativity to realise our dreams”
Striving to be better tomorrow than we are today. This leads us to our next pillar, “Kaizen”

Kaizen

“We improve our business operations continuously, always driving for innovation and evolution.”
Kaizen- 'Change for the good', 'Change for the better'. We are continuously looking for a better way. If you empower your people to always look to improve, it will naturally develop them. We ask all our members to make 2 improvements to their process per month.

Genchi Genbutsu

We practice Genchi Genbutsu. Go to the source to find the facts to make correct decisions, build consensus and achieve goals at best speed.
Genchi Genbutsu is different to Gemba walks. Not only does it take us to where the work occurs, it provides a platform for us to understand the ACTUAL condition. It removes management barriers and allows us to coach our people.

Respect

“We respect others, make every effort to understand each other, take responsibility and do our best to build mutual trust”
If you don’t give every member the opportunity to develop, you are showing them no respect

Teamwork
“We stimulate personal and professional growth, share the opportunities of development and maximise individual and team performance”
It is fair to say, that Toyota wouldn’t be where we are today without Teamwork.
